Background

Tasting Notes

Pale straw with green hues. Grilled lime, white nectarine, apple tart tartine lifted spicy notes. These flavours carry over onto the palate where there is both depth and dimension. The richness of those flavours are pinned with a thread of strong citrus acidity, some phenolic crunch and a flicker of sugar sweetness leaving an overall sense of richness and the perception of being just off-dry.

Vineyard Notes

Single Vineyard fruit sourced from a pocket of ancient red volcanic soils in Wandin Yallock. Vines planted in 1978 by Horst "Jim" Zitzlaff and the original home of Oakridge before moving to our current home in Coldstream. The Riesling was always Horst's favorite variety on the property so naming the wine in his honor seemed more than appropriate.

Winemaker's Notes

Grapes were handpicked and whole bunch pressed before a natural fermentation on full solids and ageing on yeast lees. Only 70 dozen produced.

Vintage Notes

A long, cool growing season with average crops and abundant rainfall has resulted in wines with outstanding varietal flavour.

Halliday Wine Companion - 95pts

“Made in honour of Horst ‘Jim’ Zitzlaff, who founded Oakridge. Fermented in old oak, 18 g/L residual sugar. A very bright green gold. Restrained with citrus, apple, nectarine and honeysuckle scents. Such is the interplay between the fruit, sugar and acid, you barely notice the sweetness on the palate. A zesty mouthful that’s textured, balanced, refreshing and long. Only 70 dozen made.” – Philip Rich
