Background

Situated in Australia’s Yarra Valley, Oakridge has been producing quality wine since 1978. Simply named from our address at Coldstream, the 864 range is a showcase of highly detailed micro-selections from the most exceptional single vineyard sites in the Yarra Valley.

Tasting Notes

Deep purple with a purple hue. A classic cabernet nose of cassis, blackberry and violets underpinned with varietal leaf notes, earth and cigar box nuance. Unmistakable, fresh and bright. To taste, it is polished and proportioned. Lashings of dark fruit on the palate, blackberry, black currant with tapenade and spice. Supported by fine oak tannins giving the wine line and length. Delicious, fragrant medium bodied and supple.

Vineyard Notes

Oakridge Vineyard, Winery Block. North-facing at 120 meters above sea level. Planted in the grey alluvial loams of Coldstream in 1996 to a mixed clonal selection and cropped at 6.4 t/Ha.

Winemaker's Notes

All grapes hand harvested and sorted prior to gently destemming to fermenter. After a four day cold maceration, fermentation commenced and peaked at 30°C. Pump-overs were conducted twice per day, and post ferment, the wine remained on skins for an additional 4 weeks prior to pressing. The wine then spent 15 months in French oak barrels maturing before blending and bottling.

Vintage Notes

A cool spring wet spring followed by a long, dry autumn, with low crops and strong varietal characters . Flowering occurred in November, fruit set in January and harvest on April 5th at 13.2° baume.
