Tasting Notes

Bright and energetic straw with an electric hue. Impressive from the outset, the nose reveals deep, intense aromas of freshly squeezed lemon, citrus zest, white flowers, and nougat. Beneath this intensity lies remarkable refinement, woven with subtle flint, dashes of sushi ginger, and freshly toasted hazelnuts. It possesses an athletic power - chiselled, polished, and precisely focused. The palate delivers an immediate burst of mouth-filling lemon and lime, accompanied by soft nougat and a deft touch of charred caramel. A cool, driving line of acidity cuts through the core, leaving the mouth salivating, while the texture is glass-smooth with a finish evocative of polished river stones. A classic, understated, yet powerful Aqueduct Chardonnay - a wine that walks softly but carries a big stick.

Vineyard Notes

Henk Vineyard, Aqueduct Block, North-facing at 260 meffes above sea level, Planted in the red volcanic soils of Woori Yallock in 2008 using the Dijon clone 95 and cropped at 5.4t/Ha.

Winemaker's Notes

All grapes hand-picked and sorted prior to whole bunch pressing direct to French oak puncheons for natural fermentation. 20% of the barrels were new. Post-fermentation, the wine was matured on its fermentation lees for 10 months in barrel followed by a further six months on lees in tank prior to bottling after a single filtration.

Vintage Notes

A cool wet spring and summer followed by a dry and temperate autumn has delivered balanced crops in near perfect harvesting conditions. The resulting wines show elegant varietal flavours, freshness, and balanced acidities. Flowering occurred in late October, fruit set in December and harvest on February 28th at 12.6° baume.

Halliday Wine Companion - 98pts

“From the highest section at Henk, around 260m. Whole-bunch pressed to 500L French puncheons (20% new). Picked late February, which is a touch earlier than normal. A very bright green gold. With its bouquet of white peach, citrus, grapefruit pith and flint, this is discreet and complex in equal measure. Tightly coiled on entry before fanning out on the palate. I love the gently chewy texture on the back palate. Will cellar effortlessly over the next decade, if not longer.” – Philip Rich
