Tasting Notes

Deep red with a garnet hue. Densely fruited aromas of red cherry, cranberry and pomegranate. Sweet spice elements and touches of earth are interwoven beautifully with the fruit and its all framed and by some subtle stylish oak. The palate displays lashing of fruits, the full spectrum red and blue berries cascade down the mouth. Supple tannins and balanced acidity support the fruit and provide excellent length and persistence of flavour. This is a beautiful wine, layered and complex. A wine for now with the potential to cellar.

Vineyard Notes

Henk Vineyard, Aqueduct block. North facing at 225m above sea level. Planted in the red volcanic soils of Woori Yallock in 2008 using the MV6 clone and cropped at 6.8 t/Ha.

Winemaker's Notes

All grapes hand harvested and sorted prior to destemming 80% of the berries into an open fermenter with the balance being whole bunch inclusion. Fermentation proceeded naturally and lasted 21 days prior to pressing to a mixture of French oak barrels, of which 10% were new. Malolactic conversion was completed in barrel where the wine remained on its gross lees for 10 months followed by a further 6 months on lees in tank prior to bottling.

Vintage Notes

A cool spring wet spring, mild summer and a long, dry autumn with low crops has resulted in strong varietal characters and fine persistent acidities. Harvested on March 8th at 12.9 baume.
