Tasting Notes

Deep red with vibrant crimson into purple hue. Aromas of freshly picked blackberries, currants and other dark fruits jump out of the glass. There is an understated depth and complexity to the aromas, with notes of mocha and mountain herbs, particularly rosemary and oregano, adding to the intriguing bouquet. On the palate, similar bright and fresh fruits are on display. Fine, dusty tannins carry the array of black and blue fruits to great depth. A very polished and poised cabernet with a cool line of acidity that is inherently cabernet, and inherently Yarra.

Vineyard Notes

This wine was sourced from the north facing Barkala Ridge vineyard, sited in the red volcanic soils of Wandin East.

Winemaker's Notes

A traditional winemaking approach was used to produce this wine - fermentation on skins with twice daily pump-overs for four weeks followed by a 15-month maturation in 225 litre French oak barrels.

Vintage Notes

A long, late and cool growing season with very low crops delivering wines with exceptional flavour, freshness and balance.

Halliday Wine Companion - 96pts

“From one of the few cabernet vineyards in the Upper Yarra; planted at 240m elevation in Wandin East. Matured in French barriques (30% new) for 15 months. A deepish, bright crimson purple. Fragrant and leafy with dark cherries, blackcurrants, violets and a little cedar. Comes into its own on the medium-bodied, nicely concentrated, elegant and gently persistent palate. Should age effortlessly over the next decade or so.” – Philip Rich

The Real Review - 95pts

“A very attractive, youthful, deep, purple red in colour. Complex aromas of cassis, bramble, violets, dark cherry, cedar, graphite and clovey oak. Really attractive. There’s lovely brightness, drive and purity on the palate. Dark cherry, blackberry, iodine, and briary underbrush flavours are all weaving their magic around some pretty serious and shapely tannins. Very smart structure and purity of cabernet here. Lovely ‘luncheon claret'” – Aaron Brasher
