Tasting Notes
This is expressive and formed chardonnay showing some bottle aged characteristics. Nectarine moving to yellow peach, hints of flint and cordite adding complexity. And there’s a under current of lime citrus and curry leaf spice which only adds to the sense of dimension. These flavours spill over onto the palate, the flintiness and citrus notes keeping the riper stone fruit flavours tempered and in check. There's depth of flavour but with a lovely line of acidity adding refreshment, length and line. Semi-mature, rich and flavoursome but with wonderful freshness and plenty of years left.
Vineyard Notes
The fruit for this wine was sourced from the north facing Hazeldene Vineyard, sited in the red volcanic soils of Gladysdale.
Winemaker's Notes
A traditional winemaking approach was used to produce this wine – handpicking and whole bunch pressing directly into 500 litre French oak puncheons for natural fermentation followed by a 10 month maturation on lees.
Vintage Notes
A warm, dry early season with ideal flowering conditions has resulted in excellent crops and strong varietal flavours.
