Tasting Notes

Pale straw with a neon hue. Intense aromas of white peach, grapefruit and nectarine jump out of the glass. There is welcome support by subtle creamy, nougat notes, and hints of mille-feuille pastry. Flecks of citrus zest and Thai basil contribute to the complex set of aromas. On the palate, it's all about fruit and texture. A pithy entry of freshly cut lime flavours fill the mouth, with just-ripe nectarine and crunchy white peach also present. A refreshing line of acidity drives the wine to great depth, with fruit flavours ever present. An exemplary illustration of modern contemporary Australian chardonnay from the Yarra Valley.

Vineyard Notes

This wine was sourced from the north facing Henk Vineyard, sited in the red volcanic soils of Woori Yallock.

Winemaker's Notes

A traditional winemaking approach was used to produce this wine: handpicking and whole bunch pressing directly into 500 litre French oak puncheons for a natural fermentation followed by 14 months maturing on lees.

Vintage Notes

A cool wet spring and summer followed by a dry and temperate autumn has delivered balanced crops in near perfect harvesting conditions. The resulting wines show elegant varietal flavours, freshness, and balanced acidities.

Product Reviews (3)

The Real Review - 95pts

“Light yellow, reserved colour, and the nose is similarly reserved and under-developed, with malt, almond-meal, underlying lemon citrus and this is repeated in the mouth where it is fine-boned and tensioned, with great intensity and refinement. This is a wine of finesse, stunningly good right now but with potential to do much more with a little bottle-age. A ripping young chardonnay.” – Huon Hooke

Halliday Wine Companion - 96+pts

“From the red volcanic soils at Woori Yallock and sitting at 260m. A brilliant green gold. The purest and most aromatic of the three Vineyard Series wines in ’24. Aromas of stone fruits, apple blossom, subtle oyster shell and jasmine. A hint of bacon even. Very pure on the palate with a very fine vein of acidity running throughout. It’s worth buying all three to see how they turn out over the next decade!” – Philip Rich

The Wine Front - 94pts

“What we have here is a pristine chardonnay. It’s lean-ish and lengthy but it’s complex and in the end it delivers more than enough flavour, along elegant lines. It tastes of tonic water and nectarine, apple and white peach, crushed fennel and salted hay, with a gently citrus leaf character evident in the aftertaste. It’s a lithe, long chardonnay. It has texture and it also has energy. It will perform beautifully in the cellar.” – Campbell Mattinson
