Tasting Notes
Lovely deep red with a crimson hue. An enticing blueberry lift dominates the initial aroma, quickly supported by mulberries and spice. The complexity deepens with hints of undergrowth, while aromatic notes of sweet thyme and delicate sprigs of rosemary add a positive, herbal complexity. The palate is plush, featuring an interwoven core of raspberries and blueberries, complemented by a touch of five spice. The wine possesses a notable presence of fine, polished tannins that continually drive the fruit through the finish. A pleasing, savory touch of amaro bitterness keeps the fruit sweetness perfectly in check, resulting in an overwhelmingly intellectual and complex experience.
Vineyard Notes
This wine was sourced from the north facing Henk Vineyard, sited in the red volcanic soils of Woori Yallock.
Winemaker's Notes
A traditional winemaking approach was used to produce this wine: whole berry/bunch fermentation in open vessels for two weeks followed by an 11 month maturation in French oak vessels.
Vintage Notes
A cool wet spring and summer followed by a dry and temperate autumn has delivered balanced crops in near perfect harvesting conditions. The resulting wines show elegant varietal flavours, freshness, and balanced acidities.
